Hammond Street Congregational Church, UCC, is an open and affirming Christian community in downtown Bangor. We welcome all people regardless of backgrounds, circumstances, ethnicity, family configuration, gender identity, or sexual orientation into our faith community, and affirm the worth of all persons and acknowledge God’s love for all people.
HSCC does not just pay lip-service to inclusion. When we say, “You are welcome here”, we really mean it. Pastor Mark Doty is a member of the Equality Maine board. EQME has formally honored HSCC as a Community Partner. You will find HSCC marching in the annual Bangor Pride parade.
Beyond our commitment to the LGBTQ community, we strive to help our sisters and brothers in need through various outreach programs, including:
- An Ecumenical food cupboard, which is open three days a week;
- A monthly, free, bean lunch;
- Distributing warm clothing and toiletries in partnership with the Bangor Homeless Shelter;
- Prison Ministry
We rejoice in welcoming anyone in the Bangor area, residents or visitors, with “an extravagant welcome” affirming the dignity and worth of each as a Child of God.
