    Detailed Information

Out & Allied Youth Theatre is a troupe of artists who use theatre to share their stories, build community, and address issues of social justice.

Out & Allied Youth Theatre meets every Sunday. Theatre Group meets 10am – 12pm and Peer Support Group meets 12pm – 2pm. Currently, most of the Peer Support Group members also attend the Theatre Group meeting. Both groups are a safe space, open to LGBTQ+ youth and their allies in grades 4-12, college students, and college-aged adults.

    Original Productions

Every year, OAYT creates and performs an original production. The troupe usually begins work on the production in October.

Everyone involved in the production collaboratively writes the play. Fourteen folks collaboratively wrote Out & Allied’s last production, Behind the Lens. The play’s director was a 2017 graduate of Colby College. One of the two technical directors was a seventh grader at the time of the production.

    Summer Theatre Camp

Out & Allied Youth Theatre conducts two 3-week summer theatre camps for students in grades 4-12. The registration for the camp is $175.00. This year, Out & Allied is doing it’s first original musical!

During camp, the campers collaboratively write their play, develop their characters, and learn about and/or participate in all technical aspects of the production. Last summer, the play was  titled The Good, the Bad, and the Disembodied. This year, four weeks of hard work bring to you Preventing the Future!

    Peer Support

Sharing happens right after check-in. The sharing, as a whole, covers the gamut of our lives including school and life experiences, personal celebrations and struggles, and especially our creative works such as poetry, art pieces, or other writings. Peer Support consists of activities such as board or card games, trivia, video games, baking, camping, and more.

    Workshops & Technical Assistance

Out & Allied Youth Theatre conducts theatre-based workshops at statewide conferences at least three times a year. We have, over the years, conducted workshops for faith-based organizations, public school faculty and students, college faculty and student leaders, and other community organizations.

Out & Allied is available for technical assistance. We have worked with local Civil Rights Team’s to improve the culture and climate of their school.
