It has been a pleasure to get to know David Burke, and this amazing project OutInMaine. A resource like this for the LGBTQA community in Maine is such an incredible way to help further bring this community together. Currently word of mouth and some advertising is about the only way to connect with people in rural Maine. OutInMaine and the Winter Gathering of Maine have been collaborating to support each other as we both launch incredible projects bringing Maine into the future. We are extremely honored to be in on the ground floor of this project and feel that OutInMaine will soon be a valuable part not only in the LGBTQA community but our community at large.

The Maine Coalition Against Sexual Assault supports the proposed work of OutInMaine. As an organization that serves LGBTQ survivors across the state, we understand how important it is for the individuals within the LGBTQ community to connect to supportive organizations and find opportunities to gather with others in the community. We believe that a centralized resource guide and social calendar would be an invaluable resource to assist community members in navigating LGBTQ friendly businesses, organizations, and events throughout Maine. We are confident that OutInMaine has the potential to unite and strengthen the LGBTQ community across Maine’s sixteen counties. MECASA is please to support the efforts of OutInMaine.

As a wedding officiant, I must stress the importance of having an LGBT guide available. A wedding is a very personal and emotional event. While all notaries public in Maine who perform weddings are registered to do them for anyone regardless of LGBT status, it is critical that couples have a place to go find an officiant who will welcome them without bias and embrace their decision to marry. For my own business, I have found that approximately 30% of my clients find me on an LGBT centric website. This points to the absolute necessity of having these resources available.

We think the site has the potential to be a very valuable resource to Maine’s LGBT community and advocates. We look forward to contributing.

The OutInMaine resource guide will benefit both LGBTQ individuals in our community and the providers that service them. In a rural state, word of mouth is not enough. We need a trusted resource where people can find LGBTQ friendly providers, services and community groups. OutInMaine is a great idea!

Equality Maine is proud to support OutInMaine! Our community has always been our strength and OutInMaine will serve as a central information point for LGBTQ+ Mainers. There are many organizations doing powerful work to advance equality and OutInMaine will help people connect with the services they need, as well as promoting community events around the state.

Health Equity Alliance applauds OutInMaine for using an entrepreneurial spirit to benefit the LGBTQ+ community. Resources for the LGBTQ+ community have always been difficult to gather in one place. With OutInMaine, the community now has a “one-stop” place to find information about all kinds of resources, events, and businesses.
