#heybangor! Have we got a lineup for you this month or WHAT. For our third #QueenCityCypher, we’re going big with your host Assasi – أساسي, Portland MC Words of Phrase, and singers Hannah Harleen and Stephanie Crosby! Expect old-school Fugees vibes with a nostalgic 1950s Nile River twist.

Grab a snack or beverage from Queen City Cinema Club and hang out while we record the cypher and jam afterward. This event is FREE and suitable for music fans 12 and up.

Stay tuned for the cypher to hit YouTube and share with your favorite hip-hop heads! Catch up on previous cyphers here: https://youtu.be/5qKdVrUZvDo

Featured MC Words of Phrase was born and raised in Roanoke, Virginia and then moved to Maine as a teen, eager for his voice to be heard. He developed his unique flow, stylistic delivery and personality from the vastly different climates. He was inspired by the poetic language of authors, poets, musicians and artists that rebel against the norm and embrace the independent art form.

Hannah Harleen, who was born in Berkeley, California and raised in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, has been singing since the young age of 12. Her vocal style has evolved over the years into a blend of her early jazz influences mixed with R&B, neo-soul, and pop. She likes to think of her style as a mix of Ella Fitzgerald, Alicia Keys, and Ariana Grande. Hannah lives on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hannahharleen/

Stephanie Crosby grew up virtually feral outside Millinocket, Maine. Raised by music-loving parents, she wrote dozens of angsty acoustic songs as a teenager. Music fell by the wayside for several years as she traveled as a volunteer teacher in East Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, but her husband Assasi has encouraged her to pick the guitar back up and start writing music again.

Your host Assasi – أساسي is an Arabic-language hip-hop artist transplanted to Bangor, Maine from Aleppo, Syria. Inspired by American rap royalty, steeped in the traditions of Golden-Age Arabic song, and peppered with diverse cultural influences from his days wandering in exile, Assasi brings expressive and technical flows wherever he goes.
