Healthy Acadia – SuicideTalk
June 10 @ 3:00 PM - 4:15 PM EDT
Healthy Acadia’s Drug Free Communities Coalition will present suicideTALK, a community-oriented program exploring issues around suicide and the connections to youth substance use, and how suicide can be prevented in our community, from 3:00pm to 4:15pm, at the Ellsworth Public Library. This presentation is appropriate for the general public, including youth ages 15 years and older.
Suicide deaths and injuries due to suicide attempts can be reduced, and increasing community awareness that suicide is a serious public health problem is the first step toward prevention. This 1-hour suicideTALK program is designed to help participants become more aware that there are many activities we can do to prevent suicide in our communities.
Suicide is a serious community health problem that is often misunderstood and often involves underlying mental health issues. In 1996, the United Nations issued its national strategy guidelines, which included suicide as a serious social problem. We need everyone, working together, to eliminate the stigma around talking about suicide in order to reduce rates of suicide as well as the devastating community health consequences that follow after each loss of life due to suicide.
All participants will receive a certificate with 1 contact hour of continuing education. Pre-registration is encouraged, and refreshments will be served. Find Healthy Acadia on Facebook to register for this event online.
